Let’s be honest. For a lot of us, the idea of “evangelism” or “outreach” sometimes feel kind of awkward. We think it’s only for super-bold people, pastors, outreach team or that one person in our small group who talks to everyone. So, we sit back and let them handle it. We show up to church, but we keep our faith to ourselves. The problem is, we’ve turned the main mission of the church into a side job for a few volunteers.
But think about what happens when we stay silent. People all around us; our friends, family, and neighbors who are trying to figure out life. Some of them are carrying heavy stuff like anxiety, confusion, depression, doubts, loneliness, and a feeling that something is missing. They have no idea that there’s a God who loves them deeply and offers them peace and purpose in Christ.
We see in Romans 10:14, the Bible says “How can they believe in [Jesus] if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?”.
When we don’t say anything, we’re answering that question. Our silence, our fear of being awkward, or just our busyness can be the very thing that keeps someone from knowing the hope we have in Christ Jesus. It’s like knowing the cure for a sickness but refusing to share it with the people who are sick all around us.
So, what’s the solution? It’s not about becoming a street preacher overnight. It’s about remembering who we are in Christ and what we’re here for.
Before our Lord Jesus Christ left His earthly ministry, he didn’t say, “If you feel like it, maybe tell someone.” He said, “Go and make disciples” (Matthew 28:19). This is the job for all of us, together.
And the best part? We don’t do it alone. God has already given us His Spirit of power and courage.
Acts 1:8; “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth“.
Sharing your faith can be as simple as:
-
Inviting a coworker or colleague to a church program.
-
Telling a friend, “I’ve been stressed too, but praying more in the Spirit has really helped me lately.”
-
Just being a good listener and showing God’s love in practical ways.
Brethren, getting involved in your church’s outreaches isn’t another chore. It’s a chance to be part of something huge. There is no greater feeling than being the person who gets to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with someone who needs it. It’s why we’re here.
So let’s step out together. Let’s stop making it weird and start making it normal. Someone’s hope and deliverance is waiting on the other side of your obedience!
Matthew 28:19 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”.
